Professor Dr. Dejan Lj. Divac, Civil Engineer

Dejan Lj. Divac was born on 4 June 1961 in Belgrade.

He completed his high school studies in 1979 at Belgrade’s First Gymnasium and graduated from the University of Belgrade, School of Civil Engineering (Department of Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering Section) in 1985.

Professor Dr. Divac passed the national professional engineer’s examination in 1989. He is a member of the Serbian Chamber of Engineers and holds a Chief Design Engineer’s License for Above-Ground and Hydraulic Structures (no. 310.009.803) and a Chief Design Engineer’s License for Underground Structures (no. 316D59506).

Professor Dr. Divac received his master’s degree in 1992 and his PhD in 2000 from the University of Belgrade, School of Civil Engineering. He was granted the titles of Research Associate in 2002, Senior Research Associate in 2007 and Scientific Advisor in 2013  by the Serbian Ministry of Science and Technological Development.

Professor Dr. Divac began his career at JCI after completing his undergraduate studies. From 1985 to 1999, he was Researcher, Senior Researcher and Associate Researcher, working primarily on the engineering of dams and other hydraulic facilities, and conducting lithological research related to underground structures intended for various purposes. From 1999 forward, he has been the Managing Director of JCI’s Department of Dams, Hydropower, Mines, and Roads.
In October 2001, Professor Dr. Divac was appointed docent at the University of Belgrade, School of Civil Engineering; he currently continues to work there, as well as at JCI, and teaches courses in: Rock Mechanics, Tunneling, and Underground Structures.

Professor Dr. Divac is a member of several scientific and professional associations, including the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD), and the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). In 2010, he was appointed Chairman of the Serbian Tunneling Association (ITA Serbia).
Dr. Divac has authored and co-authored more than one hundred scientific and technical papers presented at national and international conferences and published in distinguished journals.

Areas of Expertise: Design and engineering of concrete, rockfill and earthfill dams, hydroelectric power plants, and appurtenances; design of tunnels and underground structures; lithological research and investigations associated with dam projects and diverse underground facilities; development of engineering software and information systems in the field of water resources management; project management; and project consulting services.
