The goal of this project is to propose a comprehensive solution for municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater and stormwater evacuation and treatment. JCI has already conducted extensive field investigations to obtain wastewater quality and quantity data which will serve as project input data.

Tests were conducted from 7 February to 9 February 2007, at the existing main sewer (260/195 cm) outlet into the Veternica River which is the direct wastewater recipient. These activities allowed for a full assessment of existing hydraulic and pollutant loads, which govern the selection of the preferred treatment technology and the sizing of WWTP structures and equipment. Summarized results show that the WWTP reference hydraulic loads are: 24,192 m3/d mean daily discharge, and 520 l/s maximum hourly discharge during dry periods and 800 l/s during rainy periods.

The proposed site of the future WWTP is located downstream from the Bogojevce suburb, near the confluence of the Veternica and Južna Morava rivers, and is consistent with the 2010 urban plan. Assessments and analyses suggest that the optimum organic load capacity of the WWTP would be 100,000 PE.

In addition to presenting the current situation, project documents address three wastewater treatment options and include respective techno-economic analyses, environmental assessments, and the like. The recommended option is based on low-load activated sludge and the A2O process, and provides for chemical phosphorus removal. The optimum solution for the sludge line is the application of a technology based on aerobic stabilization and subsequent mechanical dewatering. Prior to discharge into the recipient, the effluent will be subjected to UV disinfection.
