The study of underground water supply sources for the General Plan of the City of Leskovac 2010-2020 included the preparation of the following documents:

  • The project of applied hydrogeological research;
  • Elaborate on the reserves of underground water sources for water supply of Leskovac;
  • Study of sanitary protection zones for water supply of Leskovac.

Leskovac water supply was based on the intake of water from underground neogene aquifers till 2011. 4 wells were established for public water supply of Leskovac, some of which are in operation for over 40 years. Wells from the sources cap the aquifer formed within neogenic sediments.

Hydrogeological investigations for the purpose of making the Study in the area of Leskovac valley were carried out in the period Feb-August 2010. Applied research methods consisted of: general overview of the geological and hydro geological characteristics of the wider area, a preliminary analysis of hydrodynamic conditions on the basis of available data on the regime of exploitation and groundwater level fluctuations, defined concept of detailed examination, formation of mathematical model and analysis of modes "shallow" and "deep" aquifer in the wider area of the source and hydrodynamic flow conditions.

The analysis of the data available from previous stages of research and new data showed that long-term exploitation did not cause general decrease in aquifers at the site. It was found that recharge of aquifers is done at the expense of water from a "shallow" alluvial aquifer (directly or through intermediate layer) into a "deeper" neogene aquifer. In certain areas infiltration is intense. Such hydro geologic conditions provided a stable long-term exploitation without the over-exploitation on sources...

Within these elaborates, model tests were carried out. In accordance with established hydro geological and hydrodynamic conditions and confirmed calculations of the hydrodynamic model, sanitary protection zones were determined as well as groundwater reserves for all 4 sources.
